The American Federation of Government Employees represents 800,000 federal and D.C. government workers across the United States and the world. Members of the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) work for America in almost every federal agency and every function of government.
AFGE members are nurses, correctional officers, doctors, Social Security professionals, TSA agents, law enforcement officers, park rangers. Government agencies affiliated with the AFGE include the EPA, Department of Veterans Affairs, the Social Security Administration, the Department of Defense, and the Department of Homeland Security.
AFGE fights for dignity, safety, and fairness in the workplace, so the government can more effectively serve the American people. AFGE is proud to stand with fellow union members across the country and has been affiliated with the AFL-CIO, America’s largest labor federation, since 1932.
AFGE provides legal representation, technical expertise, and informational services for hundreds of thousands of federal and D.C. government workers. Members become activists at their workplace and in their communities, making their voices heard in the media at the local, regional, and national level.
It’s been only six weeks since President Trump took office, but the damage to our government and the U.S.’s standing in the world has been massive. AFGE and our members, however, are fighting back. Here’s a quick recap of the major actions we have taken:
*Fighting the illegal terminations of employees.
*Working with Congress to codify USAID to protect it from executive action.
*Collaborating with councils and locals to protect members from illegal efforts to shut down their agencies and cut staff.
*AFGE filed a lawsuit against the administration for violating the Privacy Act and Administrative Procedures Act when DOGE tried to access sensitive data at the Department of Labor and dismantle and restructure federal agencies unilaterally.
*Educating the public about the impact of anti-worker policies on federal employees and the American people who rely on them to provide the services they have paid for and deserve.
